7. Website Analytics and Cookies

On the mytidyboss.com website we use Google Analytics to see which pages and tools people actually use, so we know what to build and fix. It sets cookies in your browser containing a randomly generated identifier. That identifier is not your name or email, but it is not fully anonymous either: it distinguishes your browser from other browsers, which is how return visits are recognised.

• • What it records: pages viewed, which tools you used and what the result was (for example whether a serial number decoded), your approximate location from your IP address, and general device and browser information
• • What it does not record: your name, your email, or your appliance serial numbers. We do not send appliance serial numbers in Google Analytics events or advertising tags — see section 8
• • Google Analytics choices: the controls below manage our analytics collection. Display advertising uses separate preferences — see section 7A.

Your choice

If you are in the UK, the European Economic Area, or Switzerland, analytics is switched off until you agree to it. You will see a banner asking, and declining is a single click that we remember. The calculators and every other part of the site work exactly the same either way.

Elsewhere, including the United States and Canada, analytics is on by default and you are not shown a banner. You can still turn it off at any time using the control below, and you can change your mind whenever you like:

Your choice is stored in your own browser, not on our servers, so it applies to the browser and device you set it on. Clearing your browser storage will reset it.

We also set one small cookie of our own, named tb-geo, containing only a two-letter country code. It exists solely so we know whether to show you the consent banner, it holds nothing that identifies you, and it is only set for visitors in the regions where consent is required.

8. Appliance Serial Numbers

When you use the appliance age calculator, we store the serial number you enter, the model number if you provide one, the brand and appliance type you selected, and whether our decoder could read a date from it. We use this for one purpose only: testing and improving the serial-number decoder. Manufacturers do not publish their serial-number formats, so real examples are the only way we can find out where our decoding is wrong and fix it. It is not used for marketing, it is not profiled, and it is not sold.

• • What we store: the serial number, the model number if given, the brand and appliance type, and the decoder's result
• • If you answer “Is this right?”: we store your answer against that decode. It is the only way we can tell whether the years we report are actually correct, rather than merely produced
• • A one-off reference: each decode gets a randomly generated reference so your answer can be matched to the right entry. It is created fresh for every decode and is never reused, so it cannot be used to link your decodes together or to recognise you later
• • What we do not store: your IP address, your name or email, or any account identifier — nothing that links a serial number to you
• • Who we share it with: nobody. We store this data with our database provider to operate the decoder. We do not intentionally send it in analytics events or advertising tags, or to affiliate partners
• • How long we keep it: only while we are still improving the decoder. Once accuracy is where we want it, this data is archived

Serial and model numbers identify a product, not a person, and we do not combine them with anything that would identify you. If you would like an entry removed, contact us and we will delete it.

9. Third-Party Services

TidyBoss uses a small number of third-party services to run the site:

• • Firebase: Data storage for guide subscribers and decoder QA data
• • Journey by Mediavine: Display advertising and advertising consent preferences — see section 7A
• • Google Analytics: Website usage measurement — see section 7, including how to turn it off
• • Resend: Delivers the free guide and related emails
• • Discord: Receives feedback messages submitted through the site's feedback widget

These services have their own privacy policies that govern their data practices.

10. Children's Privacy

TidyBoss is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected such information, we will delete it immediately.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes via email or through the service. Your continued use after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
